Background: What is the best gift one can give to a child ? It is “Education”. By gifting education to a child we light up their world, for they are our future nation-builders. India is the world’s largest democracy with a population of 1.2 billion. We believe in secularism and unity in diversity is our main ideology. We are the fastest growing economy in the world where liberalization, privatization and globalization promotes high rate of migration. Migration for livelihood is prevalent in middle class and lower income population. Every year one or the other Indian sub-continent is hit by natural disasters, floods or droughts. This increases internal migration and it becomes the cause of increase in child labour in the country. There is no exact figure on how many children drop out of school every year. But it is expected to be 1.3% of the total primary school age population of 123,615,800. According to a survey, out of every 100 children who are enrolled in schools, only 72 complete class VIII. According to 2011 census, there are 37 million out of school children between the age group of 15-18 years(?). Out of these, 22 million are engaged in work meant for adults and 9 million get married before their legal age. It is therefore evident that if children are not in the fold of education they tend to become vulnerable by being exposed to child labour and child marriage. These vulnerable children are also objects of human trafficking for the purposes of forced prostitution, bonded labour and organ selling. The major reasons for a child to drop out from school are:
- Poverty
- Discrimination
- Natural Disaster
- Migration
- Poor implementation of Government Educational projects.
- Lack of trained teacher
