Sumi Das is a 13 year old girl has come to Bangalore to work as a house maid and hoped that she could get better income and support her sick parents back in West Bengal. But, unfortunately all she earned was physical and verbal abuse. The house lady’s husband used to sexually abuse her and they haven’t paid anything for her 3 months work. This made her run away from the place and file a complaint against the person who abused and tortured her. When there was none to listen and believe her, Talaash supported her in her case. When she was handed over to Childline, Talaash was ready to listen to her, believe her and slowly established a good rapport with her. Talaash not only provided mental health counseling but also suggested medical assistance as she was physically and sexually abused by her employer. Talaash Association has followed up with the legal proceedings of the case and is trying to find out some vocational training opportunities for her. Talaash Association has also helped in the home search and making the necessary arrangements for her safe return back to her family. Talaash will also conduct telephonic counselings after she has gone back to her family if required. Talaash will check her welfare and see that she doesn’t gets stuck in domestic servitude again.
